OLT offered a recent Learning Technology Institute workshop, WordPress Basics, offering individuals of varying levels a concise overview of WordPress’ rich set of features. OLT currently hosts the UBC Blogs platform using WordPress Multi-User, and despite being in its early stages, WordPress is already being used effectively at UBC.

Working four jobs and volunteering for various community groups does not leave much time for attending on-campus courses. By opting for distance courses, Cristel Moubarak has found a balance that allows her to continue her jobs and volunteering, as well as work towards her degree in a timely manner.

Dr. Dziuban and his office have undertaken a decade long evaluation of online learning which has included dimensions on student success, satisfaction, and generational differences amongst students and staff. This research has provided the framework for the implementation of technology-enhanced education at the University of Central Florida.

Collen Middleton isn’t about to stop learning just because he is working full time in his chosen career field of Terrestrial Ecology. By utilizing the availability of multiple distance education courses and their tools, he is able to upgrade his degree without having to take time away from his career.

Jenny Jung needs a strong scientific foundation to excel in her General Science Major. By taking BIOL 200: Cell Biology she has gained a firm understanding of how cells work and interact while applying this information in a practical and relevant way.

The event commemorated the 60th anniversary of distance education at UBC and showcased images and facts about the evolution of distance education at UBC since it’s inauguration in 1949. The high attendance reflected the degree to which distance education is a part of many faculty, staff and students time at UBC.

Elke Hutton offers a story of hope and inspiration to any student facing obstacles that may hinder them from fulfilling their educational goals. When her health and severe allergies became an obstacle for her to continue on-campus courses, instead of throwing in the towel, she looked for alternative outlets for fulfilling her Bachelors of Arts requirements.
