The new flexible learning website recently launched, and on it you’ll find information and resources related to how the UBC teaching community is transforming teaching and learning at the University.
Faculty and TAs can read about how colleagues are changing their teaching practices in our case studies section, explore research on flexible learning topics, read the latest news about current trends in higher education and at UBC, and find out about workshops, events, and funding opportunities.
Students can also read about how flexible learning benefits them from increasing choices in when, where, and how to learn, to finding out how UBC is working to improve the student experience. The website also has links to UBC’s current flexible learning offerings and courses.
Another feature of the website is the Digital Learning Blog, where you’ll find guest authors contributing their insight and commentary on emerging areas of education.
Case Studies
In our case studies section, you’ll find video interviews and profiles of faculty who discuss their experiences with transforming their courses and teaching experiences. Some highlights:
- To make neuroanatomy less overwhelming, Dr. Claudia Krebs gave her course a major redesign. By creating professional videos and interactive modules, Krebs provided a way for students to learn at their own pace outside of class and apply their knowledge to clinical cases in class.
- In their new interdisciplinary course, Dr. Allen Sens and Dr. Matt Yedlin bring together students from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Applied Science. By looking at the physical and social sciences, students are given a holistic view of nuclear weapons and arms control.
- To help his physics students master difficult topics, Simon Bates asked them to create learning objects based on concepts they found challenging in class.
