UBC Okanagan Campus
9th Annual Learning Conference
Enhancing Student Learning
May 1 and 2, 2013
Kelowna, BC
UBC’s Okanagan campus, 9th Annual Learning Conference theme, Enhancing Student Learning, invites educators to share best practices and disseminate their research in sessions that will explore student learning, using inquiry in the undergraduate classroom, flexible learning environments, and optimum first year experiences.
Educators are invited to share their expertise and experiences in advancing student learning through evidence-based practice. The conference intends to explore questions such as how can research inform my teaching and hence enhance the student learning experience; how do students learn best; what does the research say about approaches to teaching and learning that are most effective? How can we approach teaching and learning within large classes? How can we integrate undergraduate research into our teaching? What best practices retain first year students? What is being done in classrooms to address sustainability? 21st century skill development?
All interested individuals or groups are invited to submit proposals for 50 minute sessions. Each session is expected to have an interactive component. Formats may include discussions, roundtables, and presentations.
Registration is free for all UBC Vancouver and Okanagan faculty and staff. Cost to faculty and registrants from external institutions is $100. Register online at http://www.ubc.ca/okanagan/ctl/conference/register.
Deadline for submission of proposals: February 28, 2013. Submit proposals online at: http://web.ubc.ca/okanagan/ctl/conference/proposals.html.
The 9th Annual Learning Conference is in one of the world’s great wine regions, in the heart of Canada’s Okanagan Valley. The Annual Spring Okanagan Wine Festival will occur immediately following the conference, May 3-10, 2013. A sparkling blue lake, sprawling vineyards and orchards, remarkable championship golf courses, and wide open spaces give the region its warm, rural character. British Columbia’s world-renowned natural beauty provides stunning scenic vistas that wrap around the cosmopolitan city of Kelowna and the University of British Columbia’s beautiful Okanagan campus, where the conference is held. Abundant recreational, cultural, and dining experiences combined with majestic mountains, refreshing waters, and lush orchards have made the Okanagan Valley one of Canada’s most beloved vacation destinations.
