Reshaping the Campus Experience: Learning Environment Design Workshop

By Sophie Gardner on September 17, 2014

November 3 – 7, 2014

The University of British Columbia – Vancouver Campus

Hosted by:

Simon

Dr. Simon Bates, Academic Director, Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology, UBC

ProfessoPeter_1Ar Peter Jamieson, Strategic Advisor, Learning Environment Design, University of Melbourne

In a digital world, the future role of the university campus will be determined by the opportunities it provides for rich, engaging learning experiences. This workshop addresses the need to rethink and reshape the campus to develop suitable learning spaces as universities confront an array of technological and pedagogical challenges.

The workshop is a five-day intensive, hands-on event which provides participants with a first-hand experience of creating new generation learning environments for Higher Education. Working in small, multi-disciplinary teams, participants will undertake a design project presenting a realistic development project on the UBC campus.

The workshop, which models a collaborative and participatory design process, is intended for both academic and professional staff in order to draw on the widest possible mix of experience and expertise.

Participant benefits include:

  • gaining experience in a collaborative design process which can be implemented on future projects at their home institutions
  • enhanced personal design skills and capacity to drive the design and development of student-centred learning environments
  • involvement with a network of U21 colleagues engaged in learning environment design
  • exposure to the distinct environment of the UBC campus, which features an outstanding mix of built facilities set within a magnificent natural environment

Places are limited in order to maximize individual involvement and interaction within the group. For more information, please contact Catherine Aldana, Executive Coordinator, CTLT, UBC: catherine.aldana@ubc.ca
