UBC Lightboard lights up the classroom

UBC’s Simon Bates records a LightBoard session

As the proverb goes, many hands make light work, but the Lightboard, the brand-new learning technology at UBC is ensuring that handy light makes great work!

Unlike all other classroom boards, while writing on the Lightboard, you face “towards” the students, and write on a glass full of lights that makes the writings on the board quite bright and visible.

The recorded lecture can then be published through YouTube, Kaltura or other video-casting channels, and can also be uploaded and published into the online courses websites (e.g. on Connect, Blogs or Wikis)!

In the video below, you can see CTLT’s Academic Director (and Physics professor) Simon Bates using the Lightboard to calculate the weight of the Earth:

To view additional samples of videos made using the Lightboard, please visit the UBC Lightboard Website.

Interested instructors, faculty and staff can register in one of the two following FREE events to work with, and try the Lightboard to see it in action!

The space is limited, therefore, registration is essential. The events take place on Friday October 31st (at: Room B-32 (in the basement) at UBC’s Woodward Instructional Resource Centre, as part of CTLT’s Celebrate Learning Week.
