What we do

The Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology offers programming and project facilitation support that serves the diverse needs and audiences of the University Community.

The Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology is dedicated to elevating and transforming the practice of teaching to support student learning across UBC Vancouver’s diverse contexts. The CTLT offers leadership and support in teaching and learning scholarship, course and program development, teaching practice development, integration of learning technology into teaching and learning practices, and more.

We offer a range of programming and services that support the teaching and learning community, including the following.

Academic program design and renewal

We use a flexible, evidence-based approach that includes consultations, curriculum mapping, retreats, and evaluation support. We offer tailored support for developing new academic programs, reviewing and enhance existing ones, help for units in aligning courses with program goals, incorporating equity, diversity, and inclusion principles, and improving student learning and engagement. Educational evaluation and research

Through consultation, resources and professional development, we help faculty evaluate goals and methods for data collection, analysis and ethics guidance. We also assist in planning, conducting, and enhancing evaluations of teaching and learning initiatives, while advancing scholarly approaches to curriculum and pedagogy through the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Funding opportunities

We support various teaching and learning funding opportunities, including the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund and the Open Educational Resources Fund. These funds support projects focused on teaching and learning innovation and enhancement. We also work with project teams on planning, development and support across the life of these projects. Inclusion and accessibility

We help faculty and graduate students bring lenses of inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism to their teaching practices. We have resources and programming available for inclusive teaching and anti-racist teaching and learning, as well as accessibility and universal design for learning practices.

Indigenous engagement

We focus on advancing innovative and community aligned approaches to Indigenous engagement in teaching, learning. Our work is focused on Indigenous engagement in curriculum, pedagogy, classroom climate, professional development and evaluation. We support faculty, teaching assistants, staff, and students to create and facilitate learning spaces where respectful and meaningful dialogues can take place. Learn more.

Learning technology

We provide resources, workshops, consultations, and other supports for integrating learning technology into many aspects of teaching and learning at UBC Vancouver, across our various service areas. We can assist faculty and graduate students in finding and utilizing learning technology in service of improving student learning and their own teaching practices. Learn more.

Teaching and learning professional development

We support the UBC teaching and learning community at different stages of their careers with professional development programs and resources for faculty, graduate students, and teaching assistants. We also design and offer a wide range of workshops and events from departmental to university-wide sessions, including the CTLT Institutes and Celebrate Learning Week. Learn more.
