Academic Leadership
Academic leaders play a vital role in infusing strategic priorities and institutional standards into student experience. The CTLT provides help with strategic plan alignment, program and course design and renewal and awards success.
Alignment with Strategic Plans
As educators it is our responsibility to ensure that the strategic plans and approaches set by the institution are infused into student experience, and into our departmental approaches and philosophies. Academic leaders are challenged with interpreting the strategic direction, motivating organisational change, and translating guidance into department practice.
The CTLT provides facilitation support for strategic plan alignment, including for working through the Indigenous Strategic Plan processes. We can also help with facilitating process change workshops or departmental retreats.
Program and Course Design
Achieving a well-designed academic program requires leaders to develop coherent program design, and to evolve with disciplinary, technological, and societal changes. Leaders must also navigate the administrative processes required for actioning change.
The CTLT facilitates academic program renewal, and can help assess the curricular achievement of program outcomes and learning outcomes. We help design new programs, and can provide shepherding through the program approvals process. We help curriculum committees and course designers with course design, and can help with Faculty and Senate curriculum proposals. We can assist in designing department standards for syllabus language or Canvas shell styling. To help inform strategic decision making, we can provide learning analytics access or visualisations.
Teaching Awards
Securing major teaching and learning awards requires strategy and planning. Because of nomination limits, strategic choices are needed to determine which of your faculty has the best chance of success for each award. The career-level awards require significant prior awards for eligibility, which means departments need to build faculty up to achieve readiness.
The CTLT helps with nomination package preparation, we advise on which faculty is best fit for which award, and we help with award planning to build eligibility. We have a strong track record of success in our submissions for 3M National Teaching Fellowship, West Coast Teaching Excellence Awards, Killam Teaching Awards, and others.
