CTLT Journal Clubs on SoTL and MOOC & Open Education

By Hanae Tsukada and Ido Roll on May 22, 2014

Please join our monthly SoTL Journal Club and MOOC and Open Education Journal Club meetings to engage in conversations on a variety of topics in teaching and learning in higher education.

The SoTL Journal Club focuses on Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). The meetings offer you a great opportunity to learn about and discuss current scholarly work on teaching and learning, reflect on your teaching practice, and share your teaching and learning experiences with others participants. We welcome participants from a wide range of disciplines and with various teaching and learning experiences. You can see a range of topics that have been discussed at the past SoTL Journal Club meetings.

The MOOC & Open Education Journal Club is a new forum for informal conversations about research, design, delivery, and evaluation of MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) and open education resources based on empirical literature. We also envision higher education as it adapts to the changing landscape around open education, and on the reciprocal relationship between open and for-credit education.

Each month, we select articles for both clubs prior to the meetings. When we announce an upcoming meeting, we provide an URL to access the selected article and some questions to consider as you read the article. We then discuss the article at the meeting. The meetings are facilitated by different facilitators who engage in teaching and learning in various capacities at UBC. Please check out our upcoming meetings for the SoTL Journal Club and the MOOC & Open Education Journal Club.

We welcome suggestions and contributions by UBC teaching and learning community members to make these Journal Clubs relevant to them. If you have suggestions for topics or articles for future meetings, or if you are interested in facilitating a meeting, please let us know. For the SoTL Journal Club, please contact Hanae Tsukada at: hanae.tsukada@ubc.ca . For the MOOC and Open Education Journal Club, please contact Ido Roll at: ido.roll@ubc.ca

The CTLT is located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ - speaking xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) peoples. These lands have long been a place of learning for Musqueam, with cultural and traditional knowledge passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years.
