The Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) is pleased to announce the publication of our Annual Report for the 2014-15 year.
The year was both busy and exciting, with CTLT co-hosting the 2015 Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) conference alongside SFU. The four-day conference, centred on the theme of “Achieving Harmony: Tuning into Practice,” was the largest STLHE conference to date, with 750 delegates in attendance.
In addition to hosting STLHE, CTLT initiated as well as developed a range of activities. This year’s highlights include UBC’s partnership with edX, an open source online learning platform. As a contributing charter member, UBC now joins other institutions committed to making teaching and learning more effective for students.
CTLT is also continuing to fund and support educational enhancements through the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF). The Annual Report features projects that received TLEF funding in the past year, including projects from the Faculty of Applied Science, Faculty of Arts, and Faculty of Science. The TLEF has recently announced a call for proposals for small project grants.
This year CTLT also conducted a major survey around teaching practices and attitudes towards teaching. The Annual Report summarizes findings from over 1,000 responses across all faculties, including topics such as how instructors spend classroom time and the most prominent challenges to teaching.
