Community Connections and Communities of Practice

We recognize that finding community connections and communities of practice with others on campus who are involved with anti-racism is important and necessary in order to sustain and collectively support this work. This section is dedicated to listing the different communities that exist on campus who have shared interests of advancing anti-racist work and connections.

IBPOC Connections Equity & Inclusion Office Staff and faculty As a convening space, IBPOC Connections is about community, belonging, and engagement. It is a space where IBPOC faculty and staff can come together to be in good company, to have candid conversations, and to collaborate and coordinate when appropriate.
IBPOC STEM Network: Women and Gender-Diverse Faculty, Staff, Postdocs, and Graduate Students Equity & Inclusion Office Self-identifying women and non-binary staff, faculty, and trainees For IBPOC Women (including cis and trans identities) or IBPOC non-binary individuals within a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) field at UBC who would like to join an ongoing virtual networking series with opportunities to build community with other IBPOC women and non-binary people.
Indigenous Initiatives (II) Design Series Learning Community Indigenous Initiatives Staff and faculty The II Design Series is a professional development workshop series. The series has been intentionally designed to span three months, where participants have the opportunity to reflect on their learnings in between sessions and adapt the learning to fit their own context. The goal of the workshops is to create space for instructors and members of the UBC teaching and learning community who come to Indigenous topics with different levels of knowledge and expertise. Through their involvement with the II Design Series, participants have the opportunity to be part of a Learning Community to share practices, redesign elements of their teaching and learning projects and resources, model and explore educational materials, and apply classroom climate principles to everyday learning design situations.
Indigenous Initiatives (II) Virtual Coffee Drop-In Indigenous Initiatives Staff and faculty Indigenous Initiatives at CTLT develops and offers programming, resources, and consultations focused on Indigenous engagement in curriculum, pedagogy, classroom climate, and professional development. To facilitate respectful and meaningful dialogue in learning spaces on campus and within the communities we work, we provide support and professional development for faculty, teaching assistants, and graduate students who are teaching in face-to-face, blended, or online classes. The Virtual Coffee Drop-ins are open to anyone who would like support in these areas and would like to stay connected.
Queer Orientation Equity & Inclusion Office Staff, faculty, and students Taking place from September to October, the Equity & Inclusion Office hosts Queer Orientation for opportunities to build connections and celebrate UBC Okanagan’s diverse 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
UBC Black Caucus  UBC Black Caucus Staff, faculty, and students The mission of the UBC Black Caucus is to promote a greater sense of community, advocate progress and maintain ongoing support for Black students, staff, and faculty at UBC in an effort to enhance anti-racism and cultural diversity within the University, and support the academic mission of the institution.
